Shooting
Film
Alright,
now we get to shoot an hour of film, go inside, edit it in a couple of
hours, and all of our friends are amazed by the professional quality
effects, right?
Wrong!
The first thing you have to understand is that editing movies takes time.
First
of all, a little lesson on how movies work. A movie is a series of
images that flashes by your eye so fast that they run together and it
looks like smooth motion. That means that the average movie
uses
about 20-30 frames per second. Each of these frames is a picture which
will have to be edited, so for your first movie, keep it short. I would
suggest under ten seconds, because a ten second movie will have about
250 frames.
I
repeat: Start small. If you then want to do something bigger, then do
it, but start small. My first movie was about eight seconds long.
Having
said that, I will let you in on a secret. If you are using a tripod,
don't worry about the amount of time you need to get from the start
button to where you will come on camera, you can remove that later.
